Cuico is an illustration of an Aztec creation myth on the origin of music. The writing is very programic for the soloists as well as the accompanying ensemble. Lift Every Voice and Sing is a setting of the hymn by John and James Weldon Johnson. The alto saxophone sings out in lyric and jazz based music surroundings. The remainder of the recording is a collection of fine grade 1.5 to grade 3 level works that will easily satisfy players and audiences. One interesting grade 3 work is CarTunes…a three movement suite that sounds like it belongs in a certain Pixar movie. Greg Danner is a skilled composer of quality band music for all levels.
