This is a very fine recording I discovered and want to share it with band music enthusiasts. The opening work is Symphony No. 3 “Slavyanskaya” (Boris Kozhevnikov/John R. Bourgeois); a magnificent Russian band symphony that is a frequent concert item. Prevailing Winds by Darrol Barry is a nice concert overture by a popular British composer/arranger. In Memoriam is one of David Maslanka’s most challenging and dramatic works. The concluding work is Poeme du Feu; a fine tone poem by the French neo-impressionistic composer Ida Gotkovsky. The San Francisco Wind Ensemble has done an unparalleled performance with this challenging program. VERY highly recommended.
