Rimsky & Co: Originals

Rimsky & Co is the first of a three CD series by the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy. Channel Classics CCS 40819 is titled Worthweill Originals and Channel Classics CCS 40820 is Rhapsody in Blue: Originals. The three Rimsky-Korsakov solos with band are among the works the composer wrote during his service as conductor of the Russian Central Marine Band. Also featured on the Rimsky & Co CD are short works by Prokofiev, Gliere, Khachaturian, Shostakovich, Bortnyansky and Stravinsky. A rather significant composition for wind orchestra is also included in this collection; the 1947 version of Symphonies of Wind Instruments by Igor Stravinsky. All three recordings in this series by Arjan Tien and the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy are of highest quality and definitely recommended.
