Order of the Phoenix
Chosen in 1978 during the formation of Western International Band Clinic, the Phoenix insignia has served as our principal logo ever since. Beginning with the first convention in January of 1980, the Board of Directors created The Order of the Phoenix to acknowledge the contribu- tions of guest artists, clini- cians, and conductors of the performing bands.
“The Phoenix, that fabulous bird of Egyptian legend, lives for centuries, finally consuming itself in a great fire from which it immedi- ately rises to live again. The Phoenix (and the Order it inspired) is representative of the tremendous inspi- ration its members pro- vide fellow band directors, inspiration which lives on long after the events of the moment.”
