Bridges is a most impressive recording by the San Francisco Wind Symphony. The program begins with Burlesque Op. 42 by Georgi Ivanovits Salnikov. This spirited 1988 is a favorite in the Molenaar band catalog. World-Why-Die II is an incredibly emotional portrait of the 9/11 tragedy through the unmatched musical mastery of Rolf Rudin. A lighter work by Hugo Alfven (arr. Jose Schyns) is Vallflickans Dans (Herdmaiden’s Dance) from Bergakungen. Clarinetists Taylor Jordan & Robert Smith are featured. Metanoia by Robert Chastain is a vivid rhapsodic episode based on a twelve tone row. The concluding work is Concert N.3 for Symphonic Band by the prolific Spanish composer Ferrer Ferran. This very challenging piece is resplendent in instrumental color and requires the important addition of violoncello. Bridges is a wonderful professional recording your band listening library should have.
