The Mansfield University Concert Wind Ensemble has become a welcome addition to the MARK catalog with their superb recordings. The opening work is the energetic Awayday by Adam Gorb followed by Philip Sparke’s Music of the Spheres; a most descriptive portrait of deep space and the universe. The Fort McHenry Suite of Julie Giroux gets its inspiration from the verses of the Star-Spangled Banner. The next work is Heroes, Lost and Fallen which is probably the most popular composition of David R. Gillingham. The delightful Puszta (Jan Van der Roost) sparkles with its Gypsy splendor and then comes The Final Covenant; one of Fisher Tull’s best works. Closing out Harmonia is Military Escort; a march of Harold Bennett/Henry Fillmore that certainly needs no introduction. Give this excellent recording your attention.
