Conclave begins with an original wind orchestra work by Sergei Prokofiev titled Ode to the End of War. Not too many ensembles can boast the four pianos and eight harps included in the instrumentation. Stanislaw Skrowaczewski is probably best known for his years conducting the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra but his Music for Winds is a fine challenging contribution to the wind orchestra repertoire. Donald Grantham is next with a suite of Barons (Baron La Croix’s Shuffle, Baron Piquant on Point, Baron Samedi’s Sarabande & Soft Shoe, and Baron Cimetiere’s Mambo).  The final two compositions are Summerland by William Grant Still (arr. Dane Teter) and Leonard Bernstein’s Divertimento (arr. Clare Grundman). Highly recommended!
