For many years Jack Stamp has been one of the most prolific and sought after composer/conductor/clinicians for bands. Gavorkna was written in 1991 and is the work most synonymous with Stamp. The success of this first fanfare for “full concert band of winds, brass and percussion” was so successful the composer wrote many more fanfares in the same genre as featured on this collection. Such composers like Aaron Copland and Morton Gould wrote fanfares prior to Stamp but these fine works were for the complement of orchestral winds, brass and percussion. Each fanfare of Stamp is masterfully orchestrated for each instrumental family and serves as a definitive opening statement for a concert. While a separate volume of fanfares just had to be released it is also hoped some of Jack Stamp’s vast repertoire of quality wind compositions other than fanfares receive their performances.
