One of the true gems by the U.S. Navy Band is now available to the public. American Century represents four great American composers each with a work for chamber winds and a full band work. Charles Ives is showcased with the Jonathan Elkus transcription of Decoration Day while From the Steeples and the Mountains is for trumpets, trombones (both tripled) and a quartet of chimes. Vincent Persichetti offers his Lincoln Address for band (MUC Courtney Williams:narrator) and Serenade No.1 Op.1 for double wind quintet. Aaron Copland is represented by Ceremonial Fanfare for Brass and his Red Pony Film Suite. Finally the music of William Schuman is Newsreel for Concert Band and the rarely performed Dances for Wind Quintet and Percussion. Highest recommendation!!
