An Old Comrade: A classic CD revisited
Purchase
Still was the doyen of African-American composers and has written over a hundred various concert and chamber compositions. Still’s original band works include From the Delta and Folk Suite for Band plus Still’s own band transcriptions of Summerland and excerpts from The American Scene. Also included is Little Red Schoolhouse arranged by Charles Bucky Steele. The concluding work is Erik Leidzen’s band setting of Florence Price’s Three Negro Dances. Price was a contemporary of Still and a highly respected Afro-American woman composer. This splendid reissue is well worth adding to your listening library and I am very happy to see it available again through William Grant Still Music
