ABC 2016
American Band College summer sessions began in 1989 as a means of providing workshops for band directors while training stu- dents in our undergraduate pro- gram. In 1992, increased interest brought about the ABC masters degree with 13 directors in the ABC masters track.
In 2015 almost 200 direc- tors from 37 states and 6 for- eign countries were enrolled in ABC, which is now held in the world-class facilities of the high school in Ashland, Oregon. The degree program is aligned with Sam Houston State University of Huntsville, Texas from which 66 graduated in 2015. To date 858 graduates have completed this degree program that takes candi- dates through a series of courses designed specifically to improve areas of individual weakness.
Each summer a different staff of 24 of the world's top teachers, conductors, and performing art- ists present lectures and conduct the 190-member ABC Directors' Bands. Attendees sightread new music and present major pub- lic performances on June 25 (Craterian Theater) and July 4th (Fireworks Show at the Ashland High Football Stadium).
