Peter Boonshaft
WIBC U Board Member
Called one of the most exciting voices in music education today, Peter Boonshaft has been invited to speak or conduct in every state in the nation and around the world. With degrees from the University of Hartford, Boonshaft is the author of the critically acclaimed best-selling books Teaching Music with Passion, Teaching Music with Purpose, and Teaching Music with Promise. He is also co-author of Alfred Music Publishing’s beginning method book series, Sound Innovations for Band.
Mark Lane
WIBC U Board Member
Mark Lane comes to Central Washington Univ. after 27 years of public school teaching. He was awarded Educator of the Year five times and has received two Citations of Excellence from the National Band Association. During his tenure at Kennewick, the pro- gram was awarded three Grammy Signature Awards. In 2001, Mark was awarded the Sudler Order of Merit (John Phillip Sousa Foundation) and was inducted into the Bandworld Legion of Honor. In 2012, he was inducted into the Washington Music Educators Assoc. Hall of Fame.
Michael Burch-Pesses
WIBC U Board Member
Michael Burch-Pesses enjoyed a distinguished career as a band- master in the United States Navy before arriving at Pacific University. During his Navy career he served as Leader of the Naval Academy Band in Annapolis, Maryland. Under his direction the Naval Academy Band received the George Howard Citation of Musical Excellence from the John Philip Sousa Foundation, the highest civilian award for a military band.
Gerald King

Gerald King is Professor of Music at the Univ. of Victoria where he serves as the conductor of the UVIC Wind Symphony and heads the graduate Wind Conducting pro- gram. He is the recipient of numer- ous honors and awards, including the Order of the Phoenix; election into the American Bandmasters Assoc. (2004); recipient of the British Columbia Music Educators’ Honorary Life Award. King is in great demand as a conductor, adjudicator, clinician, and keynote speaker throughout Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Asia.
Chris Chapman
WIBC U Board Member
Appearing as a conductor, cli- nician and lecturer through- out the western United States, Christopher Chapman is direc- tor of bands at Oregon State University. He has also been a contributing author to "A Composer's Insight: Thoughts, Analysis and Commentary on Contemporary Masterpieces for Wind Band," and "Teaching Music through Performance". Chapman is currently the Northwest division president of the College Band Directors National Association and state representative of the National Band Association.
Danh Pham
WIBC U Board Member
Danh Pham is Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Washington State Univ. He conducts the Wind Ensemble and serves as the Coordinator of Instrumental Music Education within the University's School of Music and liaison to the College of Education. Pham has appeared as a guest conductor and clinician at several regional honor bands throughout Texas, the Midwest, and the Pacific Northwest
Richard Elliott
WIBC U Board Member
Richard Elliott was director of bands in Newberg for 38 years. Upon retirement in 2006 from public school teaching, he began his career at George Fox Univ. as Associate Director of Bands and also working in the Music Education area. Elliott has received the National Band Assoc. Citation of Excellence, the Oregon Music Educators Assoc. Teacher of the Year, the John Philip Sousa Legion of Honor, The Sudler Foundation Order of Merit, and The National Federation of High Schools Oregon Music Educator of the year.
Patrick Vandehey
WIBC U Board Member
Patrick Vandehey is an Assistant Professor of Music at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon. Prior to taking the position at Fox he taught 23 years in the Beaverton School District. Vandehey is a Past-President of the Oregon Band Directors Association and serves on the Adjudication Training Board of OBDA. He was named the Oregon’s Outstanding Music Educator in 2010 by OMEA.
