The Royal Navy Band offers a truly professional performance of these works with some unique interpretations and stylings that add to this WUNDERBAR recording. Along with Old Comrades the first volume features fifteen other marches plus the beautiful NUR EIN VERSUCH Walzer-Rondo.

I am glad to see the names of the transcribers/arrangers/editors listed for each composition. The work of these craftsmen usually suffers a fate similar to rolling the credits after a movie which is a shame. There is truly a fine cast of “music mechanics” applying their specialized skills to give the ultimate appearance to each and every Teike march. Please don’t forget to give these men behind the music their due.

A couple of additional comments about the march Old Comrades. When Teike first had this march performed the director commented the composition should be ignited. Who would have guessed from the possible ashes rose a Phoenix as Old Comrades has become one of the world’s greatest concert marches with an international popularity that sometimes exceeds The Stars and Stripes Forever!!!!

A personal aside is that in my years of writing MusiClips I have used the subtitle Old Comrades for a reissued CD the reader should get acquainted with.

Royal Swedish Navy BandAlexander Hanson, conducting Purchase from Naxos8.574317 A collection of CARL TEIKE marches on CD has been long overdue for band enthusiasts.
