Season Summers is the Adjunct Professor of Oboe at Sam Houston State University. As an active freelancer in the Houston area, she has performed with such groups as Opera in the Heights, Musiqa, and Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS). Season is passionate about oboe pedagogy, teaching for Bocal Majority’s double reed camp, dedicating time to high school and collegiate level master classes, and furthering the professional development of music educators at the Center for Music Education of SHSU. She is currently studying master oboe teachers in the United States as her dissertation topic. This study seeks to determine their commonalities and create a profile for performance majors interested in pursuing work as a music educator.
Season received a BM from Baylor University, a MM and a Graduate Certificate in Performance from Northwestern University and is working to complete her DMA at Arizona State University, where she is currently ABD. Her primary teachers include Dr. Linda Gilbert, Dr. Doris DeLoach, Ray Still, and Martin Schuring.
