Ray Chapa earned a B.M.E. from Sam Houston State University (Huntsville,Texas) where he studied clarinet with Dr. Ralph L. Mills & Richard W. Pickar (former Principal Clarinet, Houston Symphony) He also attended graduate school at SHSU & The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston.
He served in The 4th & 5th U.S. Army Headquarters Bands (Fort Sam Houston, Texas) & The 264th U.S. Army "Band of the Pacific," (Ft. Shafter, Hawaii)
He currently conducts workshops in approximately 100 schools throughout Texas & Arkansas and has presented clinics for numerous state music conventions, Midwest & The American Band College in Ashland, Oregon. His workshops are the basis for his educational video, "Clarinet Gymnastics" and the recently published "Klarinette Toccaten."
