I assure you this collection of marches is well worth the effort to find The title work is by Percy Grainger and is just one of the thirteen gems played with utter professionalism. One surprise is a very rare performance of Mendelssohn’s Trauermarsch Op. 103 (a long neglected original band work). Other pieces of interest include Overture & March 1776 (Ives/Sinclair), Miltarmarsch in E-flat Op. 57 No.1 (Richard Strauss/J.H. Matthey) and Grand March to the Memory of Washington (Ole Bull/Stig Nordhagen). Very informative program notes are featured in this superb recording.
